My name is Ian Buck and I am the Deacon for Health & Safety.and Fire Protection
I have been a member at RBC together with my wife Jane since 2018. I have two sons, David – a train driver, and Stephen, a paramedic wo have both recently got engaged. My Christian journey started in Greenford Methodist Church and after meeting Jane was rekindled at Banstead United Reformed Church where we married in 1983, followed by Reigate Park United Reformed Church. I served as an elder at both churches. I have recently retired after 51 years in the railway and tram industry in train and tram maintenance which involved a lot of procedure and protocol writing and where Risk Assessments are a way of life. I also serve in the Welcome Team, the Facilities Management Team (FMT) and occasional lead Sunday morning prayers. I was, and hope to be again, an active Growth Group member and strongly believe in the empowerment of individuals to discover their way to faith. To that end, whilst accepting that there are things we have to do, I believe that Health & Safety is a culture of common sense rather than an imposition and should be intrinsic in all we do. I like to have a pragmatic approach where Health & Safety is not used as an excuse to not do something or to make life difficult but is seen as a way of doing things better and following the Christian principle of supporting and protecting one another. On the basis that health & Safety is the responsibility of all of us if anyone has a question or concern please feel feel free to come and talk to me.
