What Is Church? (Series)

There’s a lot of excitement at the moment about things beginning to return to normal, people are now having haircuts again, we can eat restaurant meals outdoors and we can once again shop for non-essential items. Church communities are excited about what a return to normal will mean for them – a return to singing, meeting old friends and making new ones, refreshments and meals together and a lot more as we transition to meeting onsite again. But what is normal for a church community?
In the book of Acts, the new church community was revolutionary in how it transformed the people and culture around it. In fact within just a few short verses ( Acts 2: 42-47) we discover five dynamics of church community life that still challenge and energise us today.

The remaining seven weeks will be thinking about the seven letters to the churches in Revelation (Revelation 2-3) exploring what can happen when these hallmarks are out of kilter. As we ask the question ‘What is Church?’ our faith in Jesus and commitment to church community will be renewed and encouraged to help us be the community full of hope, love, praise and practical action, ‘Sharing God’s truth and Showing God’s Love'.

Lent 2021 : 'Walk On'

Followers of Jesus are encouraged to ‘walk just as he walked’ ( I john 2: 6 NRSV)! Yet this is not always easy through the ups and downs of life. However, even Jesus experienced his own times of wilderness- 40 days in isolation following his baptism. So we do not walk alone! In the Bible although the wilderness was a dangerous dry place of chaos and disorder, it also became a place of solitude, nourishment, revelation and life affirming faith . We’re not always good at addressing themes like sorrow guilt or doubt yet these thoughts and experiences are often closer than we like to acknowledge As we ‘walk on’ through these 6 Sundays of lent together we will discover the dunes of the desert can still be places of great worship and surprising intimacy with God. This series is based on ‘Worship in the Wilderness’ by Engage worship
